man rolling a ciggie
Photograph of a man sitting on a step doing a roll up (cigarette), I some times pre-set the camera with a 35 mm on and just carry it in my hand at my side, hence the slight angle to this one
have over the years got a few interesting pictures, and some that have even left me confused, and I was there when the picture was taken ….
effie contemporary dancer
photograph of Effie a contemporary dancer , the picture was lit from the side with a light bulb through a soft box and a window behind her , 50 sec F2.8 400 asa in case you’re wondering about the flowers its nod to mr van Gogh and his sunflowers with a hint of whistlers mother pose by Effie ,
woman in mask
for some reason I’m not sure off ,I was going to call this the lady killers as it a part of a project I’m working on this week , but I kept thinking of the Alex Guinness film the lady killers (excellent film by the way) had about 5 minutes to take the picture and to set up before they left , so used the side light to back fill and the light from a window behind me , was going to use the over head light but decided against it in the end ,
running towards the car
this was taken on a very cold, wet and windy day on the beach , the couple had start walking slowly along the beach with they child ,then suddenly picked the child up and run back to they car, just happen to catch them as they run back, I like this pic because it looks so desolate and sums up the weather of the day , 300 mm 2.8 F4 640sec 400 Asa, I very rarely go above F4 on my 300 as I like the shallow depth of field can be a bit of a sod focusing sometimes ,(manual lens)
Nature conspired against me
Was going to put this up last week, but between sorting a photo exhibit out and two other project that need to be done by today (Sunday). Which I’ve now sorted out.
Nature conspired against me on the day I took this, there were some really nice waves breaking over the rigs but I only had my 17-55mm lens and wanted to for shorten the distance between them for a better shot, well that was my theory, so change to my old 300mm, and the waves must have decided they didn’t want to play any more and all the birds went as well,
So turned it black and white and give it a slight blue cast, and highlighted some of the white on the rig and waves, the rig in the background has a very soft yellow layer add to it,
And if you can’t tell yet I drew the birds in, I quite proud of them, as I can’t draw for toffee
green screen
this week i’m working with with green screen ,well giving it a go,i had a couple of ideas last week and thought i would see how the they worked out, one of the problem i found so far is the lighting, the program i’m using not the keen on low light or any form of shadow on the green as it will not take them out , so to day trying some light reflected back on the green to see how it works out , hopefully should have a pic up on friday ,
girl on beach sizewell uk
photograph taken on the beach at Sizewell uk, (yip the nuclear power plant place) it’s a great place for pics and has a very nice pub near by , I was taking a picture of something else when i saw this , because i was using my old manual focus 300 mm .2.8, i used a trick taught to me by an old photographer friend and was using both eyes, One to focus the camera and the other to see what going on around me, and i just happen to see the girl walking along the beach ,
640sec F4 300 f2.8 400 asa
a tribute to H.C.Bresson
a couple of weeks ago when I was in Blackpool taking pics of some old building with a couple of children in the background when one jump the big puddle ,and first thought was of Henri Cartier Bresson picture of the man jumping the puddle ,and I was in thorpeness on Tuesday and a tad windy it was as well, when I saw this large puddle , thought I would try to do tribute picture to Mr Bresson , I had to use the magic words to xnai to get her to leap across the puddle in her new shoes , the magic words were trust me I’m a photographer
i took about 6 attempts to get it just right, found the knack was to leap the puddle rather the jump across it ,took the reading from the background and then the ground and split the difference to get the light reading ,did think of using filling flash but not a great fan of flash and only use it if I really have too, reminds me can’t remember the last time I checked the battery in it , hope you enjoy the pic…
